Race Notes
- The 2024 Bommarito Automotive Group 500 was 260 laps on the 1.25-mile World Wide Technology Raceway oval totaling 325 miles. The start was double file and the restarts were single file. The race started the sixth time by the start-finish line. Lapped cars were moved to the rear of the field for restarts in the last 20 laps of the race.
- At 5:25 p.m. CDT, Bommarito Automotive Group President John Bommarito gave the command, "Drivers, start your engines." All cars fired and rolled off the grid.
- Pole sitter Scott McLaughlin led the field to the green flag. On Lap 9, the race's first of six caution periods began when the No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet of Ed Carpenter and the No. 51 Dale Coyne Racing Honda of Katherine Legge made contact in Turn 2. The resulting caution was six laps long.
- Green-flag running was short lived following the race's first restart, with full-course yellow flag conditions returning on Lap 17 when contact involving the No. 78 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet of Conor Daly, the No. 77 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet of Romain Grosjean and the No. 27 Andretti Global Honda of Kyle Kirkwood occurred in Turn 2. The caution was nine laps in duration.
- On Lap 42, under green-flag conditions, the top five were Will Power, David Malukas, McLaughlin, Josef Newgarden and Marcus Ericsson.
- The race's third caution began on Lap 86 when the No. 4 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda of Kyffin Simpson spun in Turn 4 and made contact. The resulting yellow flag lasted for 10 laps.
- The Lap 96 restart saw Power lead the field to green and begin a long period of green-flag running, until Lap 196. During that time there were two primary strategies, one with fewer stops and more fuel saving and one with more stops and less fuel saving.
- Three late-race cautions further muddled the strategies:
- Laps 196 to 205: The No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet of Josef Newgarden spun in Turn 2 but did not made contact. Newgarden was able to continue in the fourth position following the incident.
- Laps 240 to 250: When battling for position, the No. 66 Meyer Shank Racing Honda of David Malukas and the No. 12 Team Penske Chevrolet of Power came together in Turn 2, ending Malukas' night when he contacted the wall.
- Laps 251 to 253: The restart following the previous caution led to a pileup of multiple cars, including the No. 12 Chevrolet of Power, the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet of Alexander Rossi, the No. 77 Chevrolet of Grosjean and the No. 18 Dale Coyne Racing Honda of Jack Harvey. The crash on the front stretch with less than 10 laps remaining compelled INDYCAR to declare a red flag, which paused the race with eight laps to go.
- On the Lap 254 restart, Newgarden led the field back to green and he maintained the lead to the checkered flag.
- The result marked Newgarden's second win of 2024 and the 31st victory of his NTT IndyCar Series career, tying him for 10th on the all-time wins list with Dario Franchitti, Paul Tracy and Helio Castroneves.
- The race saw a record number of lead changes with 21 and record passing with 676 total passes and 254 position passes.

- Palou 443
- Herta 384 (-59)
