Harding Steinbrenner Racing will merge with Andretti Autosport to form Andretti Harding Steinbrenner Autosport and field a No. 88 Honda for Colton Herta during the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series season, expanding Andretti’s car count to five.
The multiyear agreement begins in 2020, immediately following an impressive rookie season for Herta that included two pole positions and one race win entering the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca finale. Also joining Herta at the new Andretti entity will be team co-owners Mike Harding and George Michael Steinbrenner IV, who will work with Michael Andretti as leadership partners for the No. 88 entry.
The deepened relationship between Andretti and Harding Steinbrenner is an evolution of the current technical partnership, wherein Andretti Technologies provides engineering support for the car driven by Herta and entered by the financially unstable team.
Herta will join Zach Veach, Alexander Rossi, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Marco Andretti as a full-fledged member of the “big three” team in 2020. Like Veach, Herta is a product of the Road to Indy, having driven for Andretti’s Indy Lights team during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Herta’s first race as a true member of the Andretti IndyCar squad will take place at the 2020 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on the weekend of March 13–15. His first race with the team as a 20-year-old will take place April 5 at Barber Motorsports Park.
