The driver lineup for one of AIM Vasser Sullivan’s Lexus RC F GT3 entries for the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season has been completed with the addition of Townsend Bell and Frankie Montecalvo.
After competing with Scuderia Corsa during the four endurance races this past season, the duo will share one of the new team’s GT Daytona entries throughout its debut season. Bell and Montecalvo both found success with AIM Autosport from 2012 to 2017, but not in IMSA and never as teammates.
While Montecalvo has raced Prototype Challenge and multiple GT3-spec machines during his career, Bell made his foray into sports car racing in 2012 after beginning an open-wheel career just before the turn of the century.
“My best Indy 500 finish came while driving for Jimmy Vasser and I’ve always admired the way he runs the team and guides the ship,” Bell said. “The fact that AIM and Ian Willis are also involved makes this feel like one big family get-together.”
While the joint effort between AIM, Jimmy Vasser and James Sullivan announced a month ago that Jack Hawksworth would continue racing the Lexus, his co-driver for the full 2019 campaign is yet to be named.
