Ferrari Reeled in for VIR

IMSA has made a single Balance of Performance adjustment ahead of the GT-only Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway.

The Ferrari 488 GT3 will deal with reduced turbo boost pressures as well as a fuel capacity decrease of 2 L. Now at 92 L, the Ferrari ties Porsche’s 911 GT3 R with the smallest fuel tank in the all-GT3 class.

Full-season entrant Scuderia Corsa was joined by Squadra Corse Garage Italia in fielding a Ferrari last time out at Road America. Cooper MacNeil and Alessandro Pier Guidi finished third, mere seconds behind the victorious Wright Motorsports Porsche and the championship-leading Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Paul Miller Racing.

Despite four consecutive victories for Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ford GT duo, no BoP updates have been made to the GT Le Mans division for the third event in a row. The class has been hotly contested, however, with three of the four participating manufacturers earning the pole at the last three rounds.

Practice at VIR will begin Friday, Aug. 17 before the two-hour, 40-minute race goes green at 1:05 p.m. EDT Sunday.
