Scott Dixon became the latest Verizon IndyCar Series driver to appear on a reality competition show, competing in the American Ninja Warrior Indianapolis city qualifier on NBC.

Dixon was cheered on by former teammates Tony Kanaan and Charlie Kimball, fellow IndyCar drivers Kyle Kaiser and Pippa Mann as well as his wife Emma and daughters Poppy and Tilly.

After tentatively making it through the first obstacle and sticking his second attempt at dropping off a swinging rope, Dixon flew through the Cannonball Drop to advance to the third obstacle — farther than Kanaan made it when he competed in 2016.

The Wheel Flip proved to be Dixon’s undoing. Despite IndyCar drivers’ renowned grip strength, the four-time series champion couldn’t make it though the challenge and dropped to the water below, ending his run.

“Such a great community, a lot of friendly people and I hope to be able to come back and put a little more effort next time,” said Dixon after his failed attempt. “Thank you, that was awesome.”

Despite not making it past the American Ninja Warrior qualifier, Dixon heads to Road America with the IndyCar points lead as the defending race winner of the KOHLER Grand Prix. He’ll drive his No. 9 Honda ideally for 55 laps of the 4-mile circuit on June 24 with coverage beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT on NBCSN.
