Honda’s strong showing in the first practice of the 2018 Chevrolet Dual in Detroit weekend continued into Practice 2, with Ryan Hunter-Reay serving as the leader of an all-Honda top three.

Hunter-Reay’s 1:16.3598 lap in his No. 28 Andretti Autosport entry was the fastest lap of Friday’s running at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park, marking a 1.4947-second improvement over Sebastien Bourdais’ session-leading pace from the morning.

Scott Dixon and James Hinchcliffe added two more Hondas to the top three. This trio was covered by a mere 0.1242 seconds and, notably, features a major improvement for Hinchcliffe over Practice 1, during which he could do no better than 21st.

Josef Newgarden in fourth was the quickest driver lapping the Belle Isle circuit with a Chevrolet engine behind him. Marco Andretti rounded out the top five at 1:16.6198 — an improvement of 1.6811 seconds over the speed that landed him in the same position earlier in the day.

Graham Rahal, Simon Pagenaud, Alexander Rossi, Robert Wickens and Zach Veach filled the remainder of the top 10, creating an 8-2 engine manufacturer split in Honda’s favor.

Jordan King crashed heavily at Turn 13 and seriously damaged Ed Carpenter Racing’s No. 20 Chevrolet to bring out one of two red flags that interrupted the 45-minute practice outing. The second red flag came out when Tony Kanaan spun into the tire barrier at Turn 7.

Qualifying for the first of two full-length races this weekend is next, with the grid scheduled to be set for Race 1 beginning at 10:55 a.m. EDT Saturday. The race itself will follow at 3:50 p.m.
