Power Posts Fastest Practice 2 Lap

-

The driver of the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet was fastest again on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, with Will Power outpacing Jordan King and Alexander Rossi atop the Practice 2 timesheet.

Robert Wickens briefly owned the fastest lap in the second half of the 45-minute outing, but Power made himself the fastest driver at 1:09.8759 before the appearance of the checkered flag.

Power’s lap in this second practice session was 0.2107 seconds faster than the time that ensured he topped the morning session.

Power, King and Rossi were the only drivers to lap the 2.439-mile circuit in under 70 seconds. Contesting the road and street circuit races in Ed Carpenter Racing’s No. 20 Chevrolet, King was 0.0363 seconds off Power’s pace. Rossi was just over a tenth of a second slower than Power on his best lap.

Wickens was fourth at the conclusion of the session to round out the top five with Simon Pagenaud, the second-fastest Team Penske pilot.

Helio Castroneves, Sebastien Bourdais, Spencer Pigot, Tony Kanaan and Josef Newgarden filled positions six through 10. Seven Chevrolets outnumbered Honda among the top 10 cars, which all lapped within 0.3520 seconds.

A spin for James Hinchcliffe at Turn 1 late in Practice 2 was the main mishap of an otherwise clean session.

The IndyCar field will return to the track once more Friday for qualifying at 4:30 p.m. EDT to set the grid for Saturday’s race, which is scheduled to go green at 3:50 p.m.
