CJ Wilson Racing will enter the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with an Acura NSX GT3 beginning at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Marc Miller and Till Bechtolsheimer will handle testing duties in the Acura fielded by the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship-winning team during this week’s February Test at Sebring International Raceway. A third driver will be added for the 12-hour race itself.
“As a young kid watching IMSA races, it was always my dream to race in the premier sports car series,” team owner, driver and former Major League Baseball All-Star pitcher CJ Wilson said.
After forming in 2010, the team has worked its way through the Mazda MX-5 Cup series and into IMSA’s Continental Tire Challenge, wherein it captured the 2015 Street Tuner title. While fielding Porsches in the Grand Sport class, Wilson drove in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA last year.
“It looks like I still have some time before I race in (the) WeatherTech (Championship, as a driver) but I’m happy for Marc and Till to take on the toughest track in the country in the NSX,” Wilson added.
Beyond Sebring, the Andris Laivins-managed team intends to contest the remainder of the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup, plus additional rounds if possible.
Miller has four previous WeatherTech Championship starts while Bechtolsheimer will be making his series debut. This pair plus the third to-be-announced driver will share the fourth Acura on the GT Daytona grid during the Sebring race weekend, set for March 15–17.
