Friday’s second one-hour practice session for the Prototype Challenge, GT Le Mans and GT Daytona divisions of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Lime Rock Park was topped overall by Colin Braun of CORE autosport.

The No. 38 Oreca FLM09 of Performance Tech Motorsports held the early pace at the top of the timesheet thanks to a 49.415 from Kyle Marcelli as the session got underway. With 15 minutes in the books, Marcelli led the Nos. 85 and 7 cars, driven by Stephen Simpson and Sean Rayhall, as the only three cars to turn laps within 49 seconds.

Marcelli improved to a 49.402 by the session’s halfway mark, at which point Toni Vilander was fastest in GT Le Mans in the No. 62 Ferrari 488 GTE of Risi Competizione and Robin Liddell led in GT Daytona in Stevenson Motorsports’ No. 6 Audi R8 LMS GT3.

Eight minutes removed from the halfway mark, Colin Braun turned the first lap within 48 seconds of the session to reach the top of the timesheet in the No. 54 car of CORE autosport. Tom Kimber-Smith, meanwhile, demoted the No. 38 Performance Tech car down to third as he set a new second-fastest lap in the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports entry.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, Corey Lewis brought Change Racing’s No. 16 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 to a stop off the track to prompt the session’s lone red flag.

Roughly five minutes remained when green-flag running returned.

Braun’s earlier lap remained the only one within the 48-second bracket to top Kimber-Smith’s best lap by over two-tenths. Marcelli’s best time from earlier in the outing would place Performance Tech Motorsports in third, with the first of Starworks Motorsport’s trio of entries, the No. 8, leading the No. 85 JDC-Miller Motorsports car in completing the top five. The other two Starworks cars, the Nos. 85 and 7, finished the session sixth and seventh, respectively.

Pacing the GTLM division was Dirk Werner in BMW Team RLL’s No. 25 car. Werner’s best lap, a 51.164, was 0.121 seconds better than Vilander’s class-leading time from earlier in the session. After leading the class in Practice 1, Tommy Milner rounded out the top three behind these two in the No. 4 Corvette Racing machine. The second Corvette was placed fourth on the timesheet by Jan Magnussen, ahead of the pair of Chip Ganassi Racing-run Ford GTs which were fifth- and sixth-fastest.

Alex Job Racing led Practice 2 in GTD with its No. 23 Porsche 911 GT3 R thanks to a 52.992 lap from Mario Farnbacher in the late stages of the session. Robin Liddell set the pace in the class for the majority of the outing but settled for the second-fastest time in Stevenson Motorsports’ No. 6 Audi. Jens Klingmann and Markus Palttala placed Turner Motorsport’s pair of BMW M6 GT3s in the third and fourth positions while Madison Snow rounded out the top five in the No. 48 Lamborghini of Paul Miller Racing.

The three classes will return to the 1.5-mile Lime Rock Park circuit next for qualifying, beginning at 4:30 p.m. EDT on Friday.
